FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
FAQ: PLACENTA SERVICES
What are the possible benefits of placenta consumption?
The reported benefits include a reduction in postpartum mood disorders like anxiety & depression, baby blues, infection, hair loss, & hormonal sweats & hot flashes. You may see an increase in your milk supply, energy levels, iron, vitamin b, oxytocin, healing, hormone stabilization, hair, skin, & nail health, & uterine shrinkage. It is important to understand that placentophagy (consumption of the placenta) has not been well studied, but has been used for centuries in many different cultures. The listed possible benefits are from first-person testimonies that have been reported similarly over the decades.
How do I get my placenta to you?
I will pick your placenta up directly from your place of birth typically within 1-2 hours.
Do you take payment plans?
I take a $100 deposit to secure your spot & the rest is due by 37 weeks. You can pay however you need to until your payment due date.
What is your refund policy?
The $100 deposit is non-refundable, but in the event that your placenta is sent to pathology for a valid reason - chorioamnionitis aka intrauterine infection during labor - I will refund everything but the deposit. It is important to understand that you may encounter someone at your place of birth who attempts to encourage you not to take your placenta. If your placenta legitimately requires a pathological analysis, this is extremely rare but would be a legitimate reason for refund. If you are bullied by a hospital staff member, it is important to stand up for yourself. You have every legal right to release your placenta to me.
Here is a list of things that do NOT disqualify you from placenta consumption:
What is a placenta tincture?
Your placenta tincture is a liquid concentrate form of your placenta! Your tincture is ready for consumption 6 weeks after preparation, & the reported benefits are the same as those of any form of consumption. The difference is that your tincture lasts significantly longer & is taken under your tongue, 5-10 drops at a time. It tastes & smells just like alcohol...organic, of course! If proper storage guidelines are followed, your tincture does not have an expiration date! Many mamas save it for their daughter’s puberty to combat the hormone surge & the side effects that follow OR they save it for their own menopause! Fun Fact: I have my tincture from my middle child untouched & stored in my medicine cabinet! The tincture from my 3rd is the one I use daily for consumption. I use my tincture now that my capsules are gone, & I see results with my milk supply, postpartum hair loss, energy, and menstrual cramps/bleeding! I always recommend that mamas have both capsules AND tincture made. Your capsules are for your first 6 weeks (or more if they get you further) and your tincture is good for...the rest of your life! Because of the dilution & replenishment process of your concentrate, you should have tincture on hand for a VERY long time!
How do I store my placenta until it is picked up?
Your placenta is safe at room temperature for 4 hours until it needs to be iced or refrigerated. My goal is to pick up your placenta within an hour of your hospital birth. Your care team will typically place it in a hospital grade Tupperware for me to pick up & transport. Home birth clients can refrigerate their placentas while we arrange pick up.
How long will it take to get my finished products back?
My contracted turnaround time is 2 weeks. Depending on which method of processing you choose and my current client load, it may be sooner. I process each placenta in the order in which it was picked up. I do my best to have your products back to you in a timely manor!
How do I book?
When you are ready to move forward & book your services, the next step is to complete the intake form, contract, & waiver. A $100 deposit is required to secure your spot & the rest is due by 37 weeks.
Do I need to ask my doctor about keeping my placenta?
Your placenta is YOUR organ. You can mention your plans to keep your placenta at one of your prenatal visits, but your provider likely will not remember this for the day of your birth. I suggest that you create a birth plan that includes your plans to have your placenta picked up by your doula. I also suggest that you or your partner verbally remind your team upon arrival to your place of birth & once your baby is born.
How many capsules will I get?
The amount of capsules you receive depends on the size of your placenta. The least I have ever processed is 90 & the most I have ever processed is 500! The average is 200-300!
Has anyone ever reported any negative side effects?
I have had one client report back that her modified raw capsules gave her a headache. She was able to simply take less capsules & avoid any further side effects! It’s important to understand that the usage guidelines provided by me are recommendations & that you can easily tailor usage of your capsules to your individual needs.
